Norwich City confirmed earlier this week that popular defender Timm Klose had signed a new three-year contract with the club.
The Swiss international played an integral role in Norwich’s Championship title success, but was due to be out of contract this summer – with the club tying him down to a new deal. Klose joined the club from Wolfsburg in 2016 and has made over 100 appearances for the club to date.
Todd Cantwell and Michael McGovern were also set to be out of contract, with the former having a one-year deal exercised and the latter signing a new two-year contract earlier this year.
With Norwich’s incredible success this year and promotion to the Premier League, players are going to be rewarded with pay rises and improved contracts.
But which players in the current squad deserve new contracts the most? We have picked out five Norwich players who are surely next in line to receive one…
Although Norwich are looking likely to sign a goalkeeper to either replace or compete with Krul this summer, the Dutchman is surely in line for a new deal. His current contract expires at the end of next season and, even as a number two, his experience is vital.
Marco Stiepermann’s current contract expires at the end of next season and the club have to pin him down to a new deal. The German midfielder enjoyed a magnificent campaign and was one of the biggest surprise packages of the season.
Vrancic, like Stiepermann, is also out of contract at the end of next season. The Bosnian should be the first player to be given a new deal, after his contributions this season. 10 goals and seven assists from central midfield is sensational and he is one of the Norwich players most likely to make the step up to the Premier League.
30 goals, nine assists and the PFA Championship Player of the Season award. What better way to end the campaign than with a new contract? The Finnish forward could be key to Norwich staying in the Premier League next season.
Zimmermann started the season as a third choice centre-back and ended it captaining Norwich to the Championship title. Disregarding anything else, that deserves a new contract in of itself. The German is a fan favourite and should be rewarded for his incredible efforts.
