Norwich City’s play-off hopes have all but faded after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park last weekend.
Jonathan Kodjia’s goals in either half for Villa was enough to secure all three points in the tie as they held on in the second half, despite massive Norwich pressure.
Norwich mounted an assault on the Villa goal in the second period but were unable to make their possession count as they missed a number of good chances and wasted set-piece opportunities.
The Canaries were pushing for an equaliser up until the 87th minute, when Kodjia’s second made sure of the result and gave Norwich no chance of coming back into the match.
The second goal came from the Aston Villa goalkeeper; Sam Johnstone’s long clearance went all the way through and Kodjia slipped between Ryan Bennett and Michael McGovern to tap the ball in.
Picking a Norwich man of the match has been very easy. There was only one player for the Canaries who deserved any kind of praise in the match; Alex Pritchard.
The diminutive midfielder was the only bright spark for Norwich going forward and was unfortunate to be on the losing side at Villa Park.
Pritchard created a number of good chance for his teammates, but the opportunities were spurned – most notably by Cameron Jerome from close range.
He also came close to scoring with a long range strike, but missed the top corner by a matter of inches.
