Our man of the match: Southampton (Cup)

Norwich City picked up a draw against Premier League opposition today as they held Southampton 2-2 at Carrow Road.

The Canaries will now face an away trip to play Southampton at St.Mary’s in the replay next Wednesday.

It was the away side who took the lead. Saints captain Virgil Van Dijk expertly volleyed into the bottom corner after he found space in the box from a corner.

Norwich were then handed the perfect chance to level when teenage goalkeeper Harry Lewis fouled Cameron Jerome in the area. Steven Whittaker stepped up and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Southampton then took the lead again – with Maya Yoshida heading home from a Hojbjerg cross to make it 2-1.

However, Norwich secured the draw in the 92nd minute. Whittaker turned provider as he whipped a superb cross in for Steven Naismith to head home.

Picking a man of the match for Norwich has been surprisingly difficult today. Timm Klose, Russell Martin, Jonny Howson and Steven Whittaker all had terrific matches.

But I am going to go for Steven Naismith as my man of the match.

The Scotsman has been on the receiving end of a lot of unneeded stick this season, despite some very hard-working performances.

Naismith covered every blade of grass today and was industrious as ever. Not to mention he added a goal to his game with a fantastic header as well. Top performance.
