Norwich sign Hamilton Accies youngster

While the search for Norwich’s elusive striker continues, they have made an addition at the other end of the pitch, signing young goalkeeper Jon McCracken from Hamilton.

Hoping to continue learning from former Hamilton shot-stopper and current Norwich number one, Michael McGovern, the 16-year-old received advice from the Northern Ireland star before making the switch to the Championship club.

Reported in the Daily Record, McCracken told the Wishaw Press this week:

“I had been with Hamilton for three years and it was a difficult decision to leave but having guys like Michael and the manager down here has really helped me settle in.”

“It’s a big change for me. I know these opportunities don’t come around often and having the chance to go down to England was one I couldn’t turn down.”

While the amount of senior competition for the number one spot at Carrow Road is too high fro McCracken to think about the first team, the youngster is aiming to secure a starting place in the Canaries’ Under 18’s side.

“Watching Michael at Hamilton last season was great. I learned something from him every day.

“At the Euro’s he turned in some unbelievable performances which got him his move. And John’s been in and around the England squad which shows how much quality he has.”

With both Remi Matthews and Declan Rudd out on loan, the youth set up has space for the young goalkeeper to develop.
