On the horns of a dilemma

On the horns of a dilemma

Quick, which way is the wind blowing? What difference does that make, you may well ask. Well, it may or may not have an effect on Alex Neil, who can tell, but he most likely is wrestling with a dilemma that could have massive ramifications.

Two games ago, Norwich were on an unlikely mission to get more than ‘no points’ at Manchester City when ‘that’ happened. You know, that. The incident where our goalkeeper appeared to lose his senses and the captain turned goalkeeper and received a red card for deliberate handball.

Russell Martin received his one-match ban, which just happened to see a re-jigged Norwich side pull out a creditable 1-0 home win against Swansea.

So the dilemma is this; does the manager ignore the home win and put the captain back in the team? Or does he stick with a winning team and leave Russell Martin out (or maybe on the bench)?

Would there be an outcry if Russell Martin was left out anyway?

If Alex Neil puts Martin back in the team, and the team loses the next game, what will that say about the manager and captain? You might want to remind me that the next game is Chelsea away. What of it? We are ahead of Chelsea in the league and there is every possibility that Norwich City could go to Stamford Bridge and come away with an away win.

The way the scripts seem to be written for Norwich City say that if a club is suffering from bad form, the best next opponent for them is Norwich City. Have your strikers gone a long time without scoring? Look in the fixtures for when your team next plays Norwich.

I digress…

A lot of eyes will be taking a little extra interest in the next game and reading a lot into what it may or may not say about Alex Neil. A lot of conclusions will be jumped to, and whilst it is easy to jump to conclusions, the sensible thing to do is to sit and watch and wait a little longer before making up your mind.

We at Read Norwich will, however, indulge in jumping to conclusions, so you don’t have to, it’s a free service.
