O’Neil claims Premier League has changed

Norwich City’s veteran midfielder Gary O’Neil has spoken about the development of the Premier League and how it has changed since he first started playing.

Norwich ended a run of four straight Premier League defeats to win their third game of the season and claim their first clean sheet in the league this campaign; limiting Swansea to zero efforts on target throughout the whole match.

A big part of Norwich’s success was down to Gary O’Neil. He was named man of the match by a lot of fans after the game and impressed in his first start in the Premier League this year.

His experience and level head in the middle of the park proved crucial as Norwich sat back and absorbed Swansea attacks before hitting on the counter. Norwich  allowed Swansea to control the ball, yet, did not allow them to get anywhere near John Ruddy in their goal.

This is what O’Neil had to say about the change of Premier League football.

When I first started in the game the Premier League was just a lot of old fat blokes who were good at football. Now it’s athletes who are good at football.

It’s really moved on since I last played there, especially in terms of athleticism.

They are all like 100m or 200m sprinters and they can all play as well. Your athleticism drops as you get older but your experience and know how increases.

So I rely on that these days. But I can still cover the ground when I want to – even if the other lads laugh at me – and I must have done a few miles against Swansea.
