After Northern Ireland successfully qualified for the European Championships in France, Kyle Lafferty has said he may have to leave Norwich City.
Kyle Lafferty has been a major part of the Northern Ireland side that have qualified for their first major tournament since Mexico ’86. Lafferty has grabbed seven goals so far, but his international form has failed to get him first team football at Carrow Road.
The Northern Ireland talisman has seen limited action since being loaned out by Alex Neil last January to Turkish side Çaykur Rizespor, where he grabbed only two goals in fourteen matches. Since returning to Norfolk, Lafferty has appeared twice off the bench against West Brom and Leicester, managing to score a brace in the cup tie against the Baggies.
Now Lafferty, being quoted in the Sunday Mirror, said that:
I took an option to go out on loan in the second half of last season and maybe it’s backfired. It put me out of the picture for a while. The only thing I can do is keep scoring goals for my country and make an impact for Norwich. If it is time to leave I’ll take the opportunity. “There’s no point in me sitting in the stands or playing for 15 minutes when there’s a massive tournament coming.
Lafferty will be hoping that his international form has caught the imagination of Alex Neil and that more playing time may be in order.
I’ll give it until January then sit down with the boss, Cameron Jerome is doing a fantastic job, but I can too.
