Clubcall are reporting that Steven Naismith would have loved to have joined Norwich City on deadline day.
Alex Neil went for a lot of forwards over the summer and missed out on all of them other than Mbokani. Steven Naismith was one of the names on the list as Norwich had an £8m bid rebuffed by Roberto Martinez.
Naismith scored a perfect hat-trick after coming off the bench at the weekend in a 3-1 win for Everton over Chelsea and the Scotland international would have been playing Bournemouth if it were down to him.
Naismith has not been getting as much football recently at Everton and he would have leapt at the chance for regular football at the Norfolk side.
When he was asked about the collapsed deadline day move to Norwich, he said “When you are not playing every week it is hard to look past these opportunities [to leave],”
“But it was out of my hands because the manager said he didn’t want me to leave. That was nice in a way but when you’re not playing it is hard to take.
“When the manager said it wasn’t going to happen, I knew then I had to work hard and be ready for a day like this against Chelsea. The manager said he saw me as a valuable part of the squad and wanted to keep me. Everyone has a role to play.”
Norwich were unable to sign him and it looks as though Martinez made the right choice following his fine display versus the champions. Norwich only signed Matt Jarvis on loan on deadline day after a multitude of reported bids and enquirers for players ranging from defenders to strikers.
Alex Neil would have been very disappointed not to have been able to bring his compatriot to Carrow Road but will certainly be happy with his current squad after Norwich’s excellent win over Bournemouth on Saturday, a win that leaves Norwich 8th in the table after five games.
