Norwich face setback in pursuit for Kalidou Koulibaly

The EDP is reporting this morning that Norwich City have been knocked back in their efforts to bring in another central defender to add competition to Bassong and Martin.

They are reporting that Norwich have had an offer of around £8.7m rejected by Italian outfit Napoli for French defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

It is thought that Napoli are holding out for a fee of around £10.9m for a player that they only signed last summer from Belgium side Genk on a four-year deal.

The 6ft 5 central defender is only 24-years-old and has 27 Serie A appearances to his name. He could add quality and leadership in the back line and challenge both Sebastian Bassong and Russell Martin if Norwich decide to go back in for him with another bid.

Nicolas N’Koulou, Jordi Amat and Virgil Van Dijk are three other central defensive targets that Alex Neil is said to be considering if a deal for Koulibaly is not able to go through.

Norwich have been very active in the market in recent weeks. Not buying players, but placing bids. There seems to be a new bid for a new player every other day in the Norwich press and each time they have been falling short of the asking price for the players.

Norwich will be hoping that they can get at least two deals done by deadline day with a forward and a defender being touted as the two positions that Norwich are looking to strengthen before next week’s 6pm deadline.
