Sky Sports News are reporting that Wolves have rejected a third bid from Norwich City for English forward Benik Afobe.
Norwich had previously seen two bids for the forward rebuffed as Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has repeatedly stated that Afobe is not for sale and that he fully expects the forward to be at the Molineux come September.
This has not put Norwich off of their target. The third and most recent bid that is said to have been rejected is thought to have been in the region of £10m. A fee that would break Norwich City’s transfer record by £1.5m
Norwich’s previous record signing was Dutch forward Ricky Van Wolfswinkel for £8.5m. A signing that did not go to plan for the Canaries, as he scored only his second goal for the club in the last two years last night versus Rotherham.
The signing of Van Wolfswinkel may have made Norwich and their fans slightly wary of spending big money on players. However, a £10m bid for Afobe is a real sign of intent that Alex Neil and Norwich know who they want and are willing to pay for it. As they have shown already this window with the pursuit of Robbie Brady. A deal that went through after mutilple bids were rejected by Hull before Norwich were able to get their man.
Benik Afobe fits the bill for Norwich. Young; hungry; potential and of course, a goalscorer. He is very highly rated at Wolves and they have been adament that they would be able to keep hold of their prized asset this summer. So far, they are. Unless Norwich come back with a higher bid that meets Wolves’ asking price.
