After looking like a done deal earlier this week, Joaquin Larrivey’s move to Norwich has apparently been sensationally halted at the last minute, according to reports in the Spanish press.
The 30 year old was apparently in London last Friday to finalise the move to East Anglia, with the Argentine having a medical and meeting manager Alex Neil. According to the players agent, Daniel Dos Reis, all was well with the player’s medical. Saying that “There has not been any problem that may have lead to this”. From the sounds of it, the deal was all but done and simply required signatures from both sides. However, Norwich have seemingly backed out of the deal at the 11th hour, with no reason given as to why. The player’s agent has scolded the club, saying that “This is a total lack of seriousness, professionalism and ethics by Norwich”.
This is an incredibly strange move by the club, considering all the factors. It is likely club saw something wrong with his medical which gave them cold feet, even if the agent denied this. The agent will more than likely lie about a failed medical anyway, with interest for his client from Celtic. Other than that it is a complete mystery, and considering how secretive the club is concerning transfers, I doubt we will ever see the true reason directly from Carrow Road.
Last week it was expected that Joaquin Larrivey would join for a reported €2m fee from Celta Vigo. The 30 year old netted 11 times for Os Celestes last season, and has enjoyed a career playing for clubs in Italy, Mexico and his native Argentina. “El Bati” as he is known, thanks to his similar physique to Argentina Legend Gabriel Batistuta, played the big centre forward role thanks to his great strength and height.
Larrivey’s failed move to Carrow Road means that Dorrans and Mulumbu are still the only signings so far this season. With the Brady deal taking a long while to sort out and deals Mbokani and Yedlin looking to have failed there’s seemingly little action going on with Transfers.
