Despite Sporting having agreed a fee with City for Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, it seems the striker may have to start unpacking his bags.
The Dutchman flew out to Lisbon yesterday to discuss personal terms to complete the move. But Portuguese journalist, Gonçalo Lopes, says the club have ended negotiations with the player unless he’s willing to compromise. A trio of tweets roughly translate to:
“Sporting gives up with Wolfswinkel. Player demanded very high salary.”
“Wolfswinkel demanded higher wages to 2 million euros. Sporting refused.”
“Sporting aborted talks. Will only resume if Wolfswinkel reconsiders.”

Although this proves that City and Wolfswinkel are both willing for his torturous time in Norfolk to come to an end, it seems Ricky is much less keen on sacrificing his very generous salary. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that the only clubs who’d be willing to pay the kind of money he demands are too high up the football ladder to actually want him.
It looks like he’ll have to make a simple choice of ‘football or money’, as Sporting appears to be the only club seriously interested in him. He’s on contract to City until 2017.
