John Ruddy has once again been linked with a move to Chelsea after Jose Mourinho has identified Ruddy as a possible replacement for Petr Cech who looks likely to leave in this transfer window says the Mirror and Eastern Daily Press.
With Thibaut Courtois already cementing his first team place down at Chelsea, if John Ruddy was to leave he would only be a backup keeper for the Belgian. Mourinho is adamant he wants either Ruddy or Robert Green to replace Cech along with a whole host of other players to avoid complacency creeping in to the London club.
Of course this isn’t the first time Ruddy has been linked with Chelsea as he was linked a few seasons back to be the backup for Cech but Mark Schwarzer ended up making the move denying Ruddy a move to the London club. Norwich and Ruddy were not too keen on the move beforehand but money talks and with Declan Rudd impressing, it’s not off the cards that Ruddy may make the move to the capital.
From Ruddy’s point of view though it doesn’t make sense at all. He is one of Norwich’s longest servants and is guaranteed regular football at the Canaries, something that is unlikely to happen at Mourinho’s Chelsea. Ruddy has also made it clear he wants to get back in the England setup and that won’t happen being a bench warmer at the current champions.
Alex Neil is not worried by Chelsea though saying last month “That type of thing will happen regardless of the situation we are in right now, particularly around good players who have had a good season”. Ruddy is rated by Alex Neil and it’s unlikely he will let his number one keeper go unless the price is astronomical.
