According to a report in Portuguese outlet A Bola, Norwich are closing in on the signing of Sporting’s Marvin Zeegelaar, but who exactly is he?
Those who are fans of Portuguese football might know who he is but there’ll be a lot of Norwich fans who don’t.
To help you all out, we’ve put together a little fact file on the defender so you can learn a bit more about him and maybe sound a bit smarter when talking about him with your mates!
The basics
Zeegelaar is a 26-year-old left back from the Netherlands. He signed for Sporting back in 2015.
Previous clubs
To say Zeegelaar has done some travelling would be an understatement. He started his career at Ajax and had a loan spell with Excelsior before moving to Spanish side Espanyol.
From there, he went to Turkish side Elazıgspor and even had a short spell on loan with Blackpool. He then moved to Portugal, firstly to Rio Ave and then to Sporting.
Positional flexibility
Although Zeegelaar is predominately a left-back, he is comfortable playing on the left side of midfield or on the left of an attacking front three.
Career stats
Zeegelaar has never really been able to hold down a regular place at any of his previous stops. He’s played just 144 games in his nine-year career so far. He’s scored five goals and has 12 assists.
International recognition
Zeegelaar was given his first call up to the Dutch national squad in November for a friendly with Belgium and a World Cup qualifier with Luxembourg.
Although he was part of the squad, he did not get onto the field and is yet to earn a cap.
