# Norwich City midfielder Anis Ben Slimane gets World Cup reset after Tunisia change

[Norwich](https://readnorwich.com/) City midfielder Anis Ben Slimane has been handed a fresh World Cup situation after Tunisia changed head coach following their heavy opening defeat to Sweden, on a day when [Jose Cordoba’s Panama setback](https://readnorwich.com/2026/06/18/norwich-city-jose-cordoba-panama-world-cup-ghana/) also carried club interest.

Tunisia have appointed Herve Renard until the end of the tournament after Sabri Lamouchi’s departure, with [The Guardian reporting](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/jun/15/tunisia-sack-sabri-lamouchi-one-game-into-world-cup-2026-5-1-defeat-sweden) that the change followed the 5-1 loss to Sweden. Tunisia now face Japan on Sunday before meeting the Netherlands in their final Group F match.

## Ben Slimane needs clarity after Tunisia’s rough start

For Ben Slimane, this is both a disruption and an opportunity. Tournament [football](https://dave.sport/sport/football) moves quickly, and a new manager can reset roles almost overnight. After a season in which the Norwich midfielder rebuilt real momentum under Philippe Clement, his next international minutes could matter for confidence as much as profile, just as [Ali Ahmed’s Canada message](https://readnorwich.com/2026/06/18/ali-ahmed-norwich-city-canada-world-cup-message/) carries its own Norwich relevance.

Norwich will not want to overstate one national-team change, but supporters know how important rhythm is for a player like Ben Slimane. He can carry the ball, arrive between lines and give Tunisia a cleaner route through pressure if Renard decides he needs a different midfield tone.

ReadNorwich has the full [Norwich City World Cup fixture guide](https://readnorwich.com/2026/05/25/norwich-city-players-2026-world-cup/) for Ben Slimane and the rest of the Canaries involved this summer. His role under Renard is worth watching closely because Norwich have already seen how quickly belief can change his game.
