# “Extortionate fee” Some Norwich fans react to club-record deal for Claude-Maurice

Norwich City are reportedly set to sign Lorient forward Alexis Claude-Maurice after having a club-record €16.5m bid accepted, according to Le Telegramme.

Claude-Maurice has been heavily linked with a move to Norwich throughout the day, with some [reports](https://readnorwich.com/2019/08/07/norwich-not-signing-claude-maurice-do-they-still-need-a-winger/)even claiming that he will not be joining the Canaries.

Some Norwich fans have to Twitter to voice their opinions on the potential club-record signing.

One user has compared the transfer saga to Norwich’s pursuit of David Turnbull.

### READ NORWICH VERDICT

It feels as though the signing would go against what Stuart Webber has been speaking about, especially given the fact that he [claimed](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11709/11709457/norwich-city-to-operate-with-lowest-budget-on-premier-league-return)Norwich would have the smallest budget in the league.

Claude-Maurice is clearly a talented player, which is backed up by his return of 14 goals in Ligue 2 from a wide left position last season. The 21-year-old has also been linked with the likes of [Arsenal and West Ham,](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1142292/Arsenal-Alexis-Claude-Maurice-transfer-news-Borussia-Monchengladbach-rumours-gossip) which suggests that he has the pedigree to play in the Premier League.

However, it could be a risky move for the club as they could potentially upset the balance in the squad by smashing their record to replace a current member of the squad.
