# Middlesbrough eyeing move for Dwight Gayle

Middlesbrough are the latest team to join the race to sign Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle this summer.

[According to The Daily Star, via Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre), Middlesbrough are interested in a deal to sign Gayle ahead of next season.

The report claims that Middlesbrough are eyeing a swoop for Gayle to spearhead their attack as they aim to be promoted from the Championship.

Norwich and Aston Villa have both been[linked](https://readnorwich.com/2019/05/30/norwich-face-competition-from-aston-villa-for-gayle/) with a move for Gayle, with both sides playing in the Premier League next season – the former going up as champions and the latter winning the play-offs.

Gayle spent the season on loan to West Brom from Newcastle, where he was able to score 24 times for the Baggies in the league – an impressive return.

Norwich will need to strengthen their squad ahead of their Premier League season and competition for top goalscorer Teemu Pukki looks to be on the cards.
