# Godfrey warns Norwich against complacency

Norwich City star Ben Godfrey has pointed out that there is still a long way to go in the promotion race and has warned against complacency.

The Canaries are currently four points clear at the top of the Championship table, with eight games left to play in the season.

Godfrey was involved in a promotion battle last season whilst on loan at Shrewsbury, culminating in a play-off final defeat to Rotherham in League One, so knows what it is like to miss out on success.

The 21-year-old started the season as a holding midfielder, but has now become a regular fixture at centre-back for Norwich – cementing his place in the team alongside Christoph Zimmermann.

[Speaking to The Pink’Un](https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/city-defender-focused-on-premier-league-dream-1-5949910), Godfrey said this:

> To play in the Premier League is every young boy’s dream. When you start out that’s why you play football, to make the top level.

> It doesn’t sound many games but anything can happen, so that excitement can be there but you just can’t let it take over yet.

> It made me learn that no matter how the table looks it can soon all fall to pieces. So it has given me the experience that it’s far from over yet and there’s going to be plenty more twists and turns, and ups and downs, to come.

> I think it has benefitted me mentally to go through what I went through last year. It was a good year but obviously didn’t end the way I wanted it to.

> It’s the worst feeling in the world losing in the play-off final, but it’s an experience that I will cherish and one that has definitely benefited me in the long run.
