Norwich City have endured another tough season of Championship midtable mediocrity over this past season
The Canaries ended the season just over a week ago as they were torn apart 5-1 by Sheffield Wednesday.
Daniel Farke’s first season at the helm has ended with the club finishing 14th in the Championship and behind Ipswich on goal difference.
A number of players left and joined the club last summer, with the squad vastly different to the one from 2016/17.
We’ve rated each player who made ten or more Championship appearances for Norwich on their season…
Onel Hernandez: 5
Has shown bright sparks at times, but let down by a niggling injury towards the end of the season.
Will be sure to push on next campaign.
Moritz Leitner: 6
After joining on loan in January, Leitner made 12 appearances for Norwich and looked a composed figure in midfield.
Norwich will be hoping they can secure him on a new deal for next season.
Dennis Srbeny: 5
Srbeny joined from Paderborn in January and was only able to net once in 14 appearances, seven of which were starts.
The forward showed some signs of life at times and could improve with a full pre-season under his belt.
James Husband: 2
Husband signed from Middlesbrough last summer and looked set to be the club’s first choice left-back.
As a quick indication to his showings in a City shirt, he was first usurped by Marco Stiepermann – a central midfielder – and then Jamal Lewis – who had not played a senior match before last December and had been out injured for four months.
The English defender has looked out of his depth every game and should be moved on this summer.
Tom Trybull: 7
Injuries were the only thing that blighted Trybull’s debut season with the Canaries.
The German midfielder was superb when fit, using his excellent passing range and ability to control games to Norwich’s benefit.
He will be looking to return to full fitness and hit the ground running next season.
Jamal Lewis: 7
After breaking into the team on Boxing Day, Lewis played 22 games for Norwich in the second-half of the season.
The young left-back impressed in a number of games and scored his first senior goal for the club against Chelsea in the FA Cup.
He has had some slip-ups, which is to be expected, but has nailed down the left-back spot as his own.
Marco Stiepermann: 6
Stiepermann may have struggled during the second-half of the season with injuries, but he was a very useful member of the squad early on in the season.
The German can play out wide, in central midfield or at left-back and is a solid Championship player.
Alex Tettey: 6
Another player who’s season was blighted by injury. He produced some great defensive displays in away games, but was often found wanting with the ball at his feet.
Marley Watkins: 1
The worst player I have seen play for Norwich in years. Truly awful. How Watkins played 24 games for Norwich during the season is beyond me.
Even on a free transfer last summer, Watkins has been a waste of money…
Wes Hoolahan: 3
As magical as his last match for the club was, Wes had a poor season on the whole.
No goals and two assists in his 28 matches prior to the clash with Leeds is poor by his standards.
However, it is still a massive shame to see him leave.
Grant Hanley: 8
Hanley was a rock at the back for Norwich all season and produced a number of incredibly displays for the club.
The Scottish international proved his worth after joining from Newcastle and is easily one of the best central defenders in the Championship.
Mario Vrancic: 7
Despite a rocky start to the season, Vrancic adapted his game and has become a reliable Championship midfielder.
The Bosnian enjoyed a good run of games in holding midfield during the second-half of the season and impressed throughout.
Ivo Pinto: 4
Despite being named the new club-captain after Russell Martin was dropped from the team, Pinto was poor in a number of games and eventually lost his place to Harrison Reed.
Timm Klose: 8
Along with Hanley, Klose had a great season in defence.
He had many doubters after last season and proved them wrong with his showings during the campaign.
Klose even managed four goals from defence, including a dramatic equaliser against Ipswich.
Nelson Oliveira: 4
The first-half of the season Nelson would probably have bagged a 8/9 out of 10.
However, after scoring two goals in his last 24 appearances of the season, the striker’s season was ruined.
He lost all of his confidence and injuries continued to plague him.
The club are expected to cash in on the forward this summer.
Harrison Reed: 8
Only Angus Gunn and James Maddison started more Championship matches for Norwich than Harrison Reed.
He played an important part in midfield before excelling at right-back in the back half of the season.
The on-loan midfielder showed energy, passion and commitment, which Norwich are likely to want back next season.
Christoph Zimmermann: 8
Considering where Zimmermann came from, he has had an exceptional season.
He was up there in contention for player of the season, in my opinion.
The German defender was excellent throughout the season and put his body on the line, giving 110% every time he stepped out on the pitch.
Josh Murphy: 5
Despite netting seven times in the league, Murphy had a lacklustre campaign.
He was expected to break out of his brother’s shadow and become the main man at Norwich.
However, he struggled in large parts and his end ball has become worse – if anything.
James Maddison: 10
Not much more could have gone right for Maddison.
In a struggling side, the England under-21 international managed 15 goals and 11 assist in all competitions.
He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year, which is no small feat.
Angus Gunn: 9
Despite not having played a minute of senior football before his move to Norwich, Gunn has been a key member of Norwich’s team throughout the season.
The shot-stopper was the club’s only ever-present in the league, playing every minute of the 2017/18 Championship campaign, keeping 15 clean sheets.
