Norwich City right-back Ivo Pinto says that Russell Martin is still the main man in the dressing room, despite his lack of time on the pitch.

Martin has not made a single senior appearance for Norwich since August, after injury and form kept him out of the team.

The Scottish central defender’s last game for the club was a 4-0 defeat to Millwall at the end of August.

After Martin was taken out of the side, Ivo Pinto was given the armband and has done himself justice thus far.

The Portuguese fullback has now captained Norwich for 13 matches, since the win over Birmingham at Carrow Road.

After Martin was dropped from the side, Norwich went on a nine game unbeaten run – including a run which included five clean sheets in-a-row.

Norwich broke a club record as they kept five league shut-outs in succession, with four the previous record.

Speaking to The Pink’Un, Pinto said this:

Russ is a big symbol in this club.

He’s a great character and as soon as I arrived in Norwich, he was a big help for me. So yes, he is very supporting and he is the club captain.

I don’t think there is much to say. When he is not playing, I’m the captain now – I see it that way. But he is the club captain, so he is the main man in the dressing room.

I’ve already said before, we don’t need one captain. I think we are all captains. As a team, every player should feel they are responsible to help the team and the club. If we think that way, everything will be easier.
