Butland hails Gunn potential
Stoke and England goalkeeper Jack Butland has tipped Norwich shot-stopper Angus Gunn for a big future in the game.
Butland has hailed England’s young goalkeeping talent and named Gunn as one of three keepers he has been impressed with.
Jordan Pickford and Jonathan Mitchell were the other goalkeepers Butland hailed as the future of England.
Speaking to the Derby Telegraph, Butland said this:
There are under-21 keepers like Angus Gunn and Jonny Mitchell, too. The key thing for them is getting games.
Jordan (Pickford) now has that with Everton, Angus has been on loan at Norwich.
But it’s brilliant to see them doing well. Bring on the competition, it’s good for me.
The 24-year-old Stoke keeper is currently on a mission to become England’s number one ahead of the World Cup next year, and a good season with Stoke is likely to secure that.
England’s under-21 side are currently competing in the European Championships in Poland, with Pickford, Gunn and Mitchell among their ranks.
Gunn joined Norwich on a season-long loan from Manchester City earlier this month.
The 21-year-old was born and raised in Norwich and has supported the Canaries his whole life, making a dream move back to his boyhood club.
