Norwich fell to a fifth straight defeat at Carrow Road yesterday as they were beaten 3-0 by Tottenham Hotspur.
Two goals from ex-Canary Harry Kane after a Dele Alli opener gave the away side all three points in Norfolk to lift them to third in the league.
Despite there being a number of reasons to be angry with the players and/or Alex Neil, there were also some positives.
A few Norwich players did themselves justice and here is how I rated the performances of the team:
Declan Rudd: 7
He conceded three goals but made two fantastic saves and if it were not for Sebastien Bassong being unable to switch on, Rudd would have been given much more praise.
Ivo Pinto: 6
Pinto didn’t do too much wrong in the game but did work hard. He did give Kane a little bit too much time on the ball in the first half but improved in the second.
Timm Klose: 8
My man of the match.
I really felt for Klose yesterday. He had to play alongside a player like Bassong. Klose made a number of fine tackles and won virtually every header. He actually cleared the ball with his header, which makes a change to the rest. He was visibly ordering around the defence and looked very composed.
Sebastien Bassong: 4
Norwich’s worst player on the pitch by far. How on Earth he hasn’t missed a minute of Premier League football this season is beyond me. Neil’s prefence to continue playing him ahead of a far better defender, Ryan Bennett, is costing us points.
Martin Olsson: 5
Coming in for Robbie Brady, who was ill, Olsson didn’t really impress at all. He looked nervous on the ball and I wasn’t confident when Son Heung-min and Kyle Walker were running at him.
Hopefully, Brady is back for Villa.
Jonny Howson: 6
Howson had a solid game on the right. However, Alex Neil really needs to learn he shouldn’t play there. Howson is far more effective in a central posistion. Having Howson on the right limits Norwich’s width and forced all the play to go down the left. It caused Norwich a lot of problems but Neil failed to notice.
Yousouff Mulumbu: 7
I thought Mulumbu had a very good game. He gave Tottenham midfielders little time on the ball and was composed on the ball himself.
Alex Tettey: 7
Captain for the day, Tettey had a very good match. His passing was unusually precise and he made some very nice tackles. However, he did pick up his 10th booking of the season and will miss the next two matches.
Matt Jarvis: 6
Jarvis was Norwich’s main attacking threat throughout the match and Neil’s decision to take him off for Cameron Jerome, yes, Cameron Jerome, killed Norwich’s chances of scoring.
Steven Naismith: 7
He wasn’t involved in the game as much as he would have liked but was closest to scoring. He had a glancing header that went just wide, he also would have had a goal if Bassong (offside) hadn’t kicked it in anyway.
Dieumerci Mbokani: 7
He didn’t score but he won virtually every single header and was a threat all night for Norwich.
