# Q&A Opposition view: ReadEverton

Norwich face Everton tonight in the Capital One Cup, with the winner reaching the quarter-finals. I took the time to speak to [Read Everton’s](https://readeverton.com/) man, [Rhodri Cannon](https://readeverton.com/author/rhodricannon/), about Everton’s season and his take on the build-up to the match.

### How would you rate Everton’s start to the season?

> We’ve had a difficult start to the season when you take into account the opposition we’ve faced. The Blues have had to face Manchester United, Manchester City,Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in their first 10 games, but looking back on the start as a whole, Everton should have more points. A couple of draws should have been wins, but with the tough fixture list out the way, Everton should pick up some points. There is no excuse now.

### Are you interested in the cup or more focused on the league?

> Everton need silverware desperately. For a club of Everton’s size to go over 20 years without a trophy is a disgrace, no one has any divine right to win a trophy, but the silverware return over the last two decades has been abysmal. I’d much rather see the Toffees win the League Cup than finish 5th.

### What Norwich player are you not looking forward to facing?

> Nathan Redmond has been in good form recently, he’s been involved in 12 goals in his last 14 appearances (or something like that), so he’s obviously a danger. He’s got great speed, can cut in or go around his full-back and is a threat from long range, too.

### Which Everton player should Norwich be wary of?

> Gerard Deulofeu has been impressive so far this season, and looks set to become a huge part of Everton’s season. He has a ridiculous amount of assists so far this season, I think it’s 10 in all competitions. Full-backs are terrified of him, like Redmond he is lightning quick, but he can whip in very dangerous crosses and creates space for others in a whole host of ways.

### Are there going to be any young players playing that we may not have heard of?

> Matthew Pennington may get some gametime, he’s a highly-regarded young defender. Quite old-fashioned in his play, very commanding in the air. Mason Holgate could be on the bench, a recent acquisition from Barnsley, another promising defender who can play centre-half or right back. Martinez is taking the League Cup seriously this year so expect a fairly full-strength side.

### Score prediction, with scorers?

> I will go for 2-1 Everton, Deulofeu and Kone to score for the Blues, and Jerome to net for the Canaries.

I would like to thank Rhodri for taking the time to speak to us and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season, after tonight, of course.
