# Norwich 0-1 West Brom: Player ratings

Norwich suffered their third defeat in a row on a miserable day at Carrow Road. Tony Pulis’ unattractive but efficient West Brom side snatched a 1-0 defeat in what was in truth an awful performance from the Canaries.

City’s attack seemed to lack that cutting edge as numerous shots went wide of the target, and the defence, even after a reshuffle from the embarrassment at St James’ Park, had another poor afternoon.

With a number of poor performances from certain players, let us look at how each of the them rates after today’s match.

**John Ruddy – 6:**

Ruddy had a solid game after last week’s horror show against Newcastle. He made a few decent saves including stopping Chris Brunts shot that was destined for the net. He was helpless as Rondon scored the only goal of the match, but it was certainly an improvement.

**Russell Martin – 3:**

Martin’s stint at centre back came to an end today, with the Scottish international being put in his native position of right back. However, he looked poor throughout the game and seemed to miss being at centre back. It’s really getting to the point where I don’t know where he even plays better anymore, centre back or right back?

**Ryan Bennett – 5:**

For a man who has been plagued with injury problems for over a year and has hardly featured at all for the side, Bennett looked comfortable in the Norwich defence.

**Sebastian Bassong – 3:**

Bassong’s “Suicide Runs” are getting tiring now. The man seems to think that he’s able to push forward and dictate play when in reality he can’t really pass and all his efforts do is give the ball to the opposition. His defending wasn’t up to scratch either, with the Cameroon international losing out to Rondon who put WBA in front.

**Robbie Brady – 5:**

Another solid game from the Irishman, who again was the key passer on the left-hand side. Reverting back to his usual position of left back for Norwich today, he showed why he’s considered by most to be City’s best signing of the summer. He was taken off set-piece duty for the majority of the match for some reason, with Nathan Redmond being preferred.

**Nathan Redmond – 4:**

Redmond started strongly, but then was seemingly invisible for the majority of the second half. His set-pieces were a particular worry, with seemingly all of them being very poorly taken. He did show promising signs, coming close early on with a shot that Boaz Myhill just got a hand to.

**Jonny Howson – 3:**

Jonny certainly wasn’t good today, with a number of passes being either overpowered or misplaced. He never really seemed comfortable throughout the match, and questions will be asked about his starting role.

**Alexander Tettey – 5:**

Tettey has managed to go through 2 games without picking up a yellow card. Hurray. He was actually alright today, with the Norweigan international having a much better 90 minutes than he did at Newcastle.

**Matt Jarvis – 6:**

Arguably City’s best player on the pitch. Jarvis had the edge on the left-hand side of the pitch for almost the entire game. He managed to get a number of crosses into the box, but none really made it to a yellow shirt.

**Wes Hoolahan – 4:**

Wes was a bit anonymous today, with the Irish international not really contributing much to the game after the initial dominant spell at the start game, leading to him being substituted late on for Cameron Jerome.

**Dieumerci Mbokani – 4:**

City’s new signing never really caused West Brom many problems today. He managed to throw himself about and won a few headers, but he never really seemed to be in any goalscoring positions.

**Substitutes:**

**Cameron Jerome – 3:**

This rating may seem harsh, but Cameron Jerome didn’t really make an impact in the 12 minutes he was on the pitch for. By the time Neil introduced him the game was basically over, and he had little time to help grab an equaliser.
