Norwich City were able to rescue a point in dramatic circumstances against Ipswich Town this afternoon.
It was a tightly-contested East Anglian derby, with both sides fighting for every second ball, making for a scrappy and gritty affair.
Ipswich started brightly but Norwich were able to snuff out their early threat with consummate ease. The Tractor Boys headed in at the interval having posed the greatest danger, but the Canaries remained considerably comfortable.
Norwich came out firing, though, and dominated large periods of the second half. James Maddison came close with two free-kicks but was thwarted by Bartosz Bialkowski. Timm Klose was guilty, also, of missing a clear chance from close-range.
Ipswich thought they had secured their first win in the derby in a decade as, against the run of play, Luke Chambers was able to find space in the box to head home from a corner.
However, Klose redeemed himself after his earlier miss in the dying stages of stoppage time as he rose highest to power in a floated cross from Grant Hanley.
The spoils were shared on the day but Norwich will undoubtedly be the happier of the two sides following the incredible late finish.
Here are our player ratings for the Canaries.
Angus Gunn - 6
Had a few hairy moments but was generally comfortable.
Harrison Reed - 5
Struggled in periods but wasn’t bad by all means. Slightly inefficient whilst in possession.
Grant Hanley - 7
Strong at the back and produced a lovely assist for the equaliser.
Christoph Zimmermann - 5
Relatively comfortable but not his usually imposing self.
Timm Klose - 6
Didn’t play particularly well at all through the match and was sloppy on the ball. However, he netted the equaliser and he made his chance count when it mattered the most.
Jamal Lewis - 7
Got up and down the left well and impressed yet again. His final ball left something to be desired but he was solid.
Alex Tettey - 6
Wasn’t particularly influential but put himself about and did his job relatively well.
Moritz Leitner - 7
Continued to impress in Norwich colours. He showed class on the ball and worked relentlessly hard.
James Maddison - 7
Clearly a level above the other players on the pitch. His final product was lacking but he was a constant thorn in the Ipswich side.
Josh Murphy - 5
Was lively but didn’t quite cut it on the day. He’s being played out of position, though, and the experiment doesn’t appear to be working.
Nelson Oliveira - 5
He’s in a rut and he’s clearly struggling. He made some good runs but couldn’t really get into the game.
