Norwich City goalkeeper Remi Matthews has spoken of his lack of family time during his loan at Plymouth.
Despite having a child on the way, Matthews secured a loan move to Plymouth, where he has been unable to return home from due to the distance from Norwich.
The 24-year-old has heavily impressed between the sticks in League One, and looks set to stake a claim for the number one spot at Carrow Road next season.
With Angus Gunn returning to Manchester City at the end of the season, Matthews could have a clear path to the first-team under Daniel Farke.
His baby is due to arrive later this month, but he could have to miss the birth in order to continue playing for Plymouth in the final run-in of the season.
Speaking to the Plymouth Herald, Matthews said this:
I’m not going to lie, I have not been home since I have been down here, which has been tough for me.
It is what it is. Football is my job and I have been asked to come here and play games, and that’s what I need to do.
Of course, I would love to go home when I can but I’m going to have five or six weeks off (at the end of the season).
Hopefully, by then, my little girl will be here so it will be a nice summer for me.
She is due on April 28 so it could be any time now I think. I’m waiting for the call.
