Norwich’s dismal away run continued at Elland Road as the Canaries were defeated 1-0 by Leeds United.
A sole Pontus Jansson goal was enough for Leeds, who looked a threat consistently from set pieces. Jannson put United ahead just before half time, after an even 45 minutes from both teams.
Norwich had chances to equalise, but looked didn’t look clinical at all throughout the game. Nelson Oliveria had Norwich’s best chance to equalise, but his effort was saved by the Leeds ‘keeper before James Maddison’s effort went over the bar.
Leeds had a chance to finish the game late on after a defensive mix-up put Samuel Saiz one-on-one with Angus Gunn. The Spaniard hit the post, meaning the score stayed at 1-0.
Here, we rate the performances of the Norwich players after yet another defeat, with many asking questions of many players and even the manager Daniel Farke after yet another winless away trip.
Angus Gunn - 6
Wasn’t at fault for the goal, and performed when called upon.
Ivo Pinto - 6
His bursting runs down the wing caused Leeds problems throughout the game.
Grant Hanley - 5
Performed well, and got stuck in. His poor back pass almost lead to a goal however.
Timm Klose - 5
Performed well and didn’t do much wrong throughout the 90 minutes.
Marco Stiepermann - 4
Was exploited well by Leeds, who took advantage of his lack of positional sense throughout the game.
Harrison Reed - 5
Reed did well and was good in midfield.
Mario Vrancic - 6
Passing again excellent, but wasn’t really effective going forward.
Alex Pritchard - 5
He wasn’t allowed room by Leeds to run at them, as a result, he was largely ineffective.
James Maddison - 5
Took too long to take a shot at some points, especially with City in and around the penalty box.
Marley Watkins - 6
Did well considering he didn’t have much to work with. Should’ve been put through by Oliveria to potentially equalise for Norwich.
Nelson Oliveria - 2
Had Norwich’s best chance, but that’s where the positives end. Selfishness was on show as he failed to put two players through one on one with the keeper, instead taking a poorly angled shot.
Got booked for overreacting to a Leeds player on the sidelines.
Subs
Neither sub really touched the ball, seeing as both only came on with nine minutes remaining in the game.
