Norwich City’s woes continued as Bolton ran out 2-0 winners at the Macron Stadium with the Canaries playing very poor.
Norwich dominated the possession, but poor finishing and lacklustre defending cost the Canaries, who suffered a league defeat on the road for the first time since losing 4-0 to Millwall in August.
The game started well for City, with Cameron Jerome and Yanic Wildschut both having early chances.
However, the misses came back to haunt the Canaries, with Gary Madine putting Bolton in front in the 35th minute. The lead would be doubled only 5 minutes later, with Newcastle loanee Adam Armstrong netting to double the Trotters lead.
The second half saw more of the same, Norwich had lots of possession, but rarely threatened the Bolton goal. Daniel Farke’s late changes saw Josh Murphy net a late concellation goal, but it wasn’t to be for Norwich.
The result sees Norwich drop the twelfth in the table, with Bolton remaining in the bottom three.
Here’s how we rated the Norwich team.
Angus Gunn - 5
Goals certainly not his fault, with defensive errors playing a massive part in the Bolton goals.
Ivo Pinto - 5
Part of a defensive unit that again conceded easy goals. They need to to better as a unit to stop conceding them.
Christoph Zimmerman - 4
Caught out for the first goal by Gary Madine. Has to do better going forward.
Timm Klose - 5
Klose had an alright game, but defensive play generally needs to improve.
Marco Stiepermann - 5
Marco Stiepermann again played okay, but Norwich are still very poor at the back.
Harrison Reed - 4
Harrison Reed really shows what Norwich miss in Alex Tettey. He doesn’t really offer anything going forward, unlike the Norwegian. Was very noticeable today.
Tom Trybull - 5
Trybull offered more than Reed, but still struggled to make a big impact.
Wes Hoolahan - 4
Hoolahan had a rare poor game in a Norwich shirt. He failed to really help the team going forward and really looked poor.
James Maddison - 5
One of only a few players who even looked like scoring today. Him and Wes Hoolahan look ineffective when they’re both on the pitch.
Yanic Wildschut - 4
Missed early chances, and failed to really cause Bolton any problems.
Cameron Jerome - 3
Missed Chances. Yet. Again. Cameron Jerome has one goal in the league this season, and it really shows in his play. Norwich have a striker issue, and desperately need a fit Nelson Oliveria.
Subs
Josh Murphy – 6 – Scored a late concelation goal, gave Norwich some late threat.
Marco Vrancic – 4 – Didn’t do enough to warrant a rating.
Watkins – 5 – Also gave Norwich some much needed attacking threat.
