Our man of the match: Brentford (Cup)
Norwich City booked their place in the last 16 of the League Cup with a 3-1 win away to Brentford on Tuesday night.
The Canaries took the lead in the 10th minute. Marley Watkins was brought down in the box, with Mario Vrancic coolly stepping up to slot home his first goal for the club.
Brentford were handed the same chance to level the scoring. Wes Hoolahan was penalised for a slide tackle in the box, but Yoann Barbet blazed the ball high over the bar from the spot.
Mario Vrancic then sealed his brace in the second half. The midfielder whipped a superb free-kick into the left bottom corner to put Norwich 2-0 up.
Josh Murphy sealed the win late on. Tom Trybull curled a superb ball through to Murphy, who raced clear and dinked the ball over the ‘keeper.
Brentford pulled one back in added time as Josh Clarke poked the ball home from close range.
Picking a man of the match has not been easy, with a number of players standing out.
Tom Trybull, Josh Murphy, Marley Watkins and Harrison Reed were also excellent and could have won.
Our Norwich man of the match against Brentford is… Mario Vrancic!
The Bosnian international scored his first two goals for the club and was superb in midfield throughout the night.
A calm penalty and a sublime free-kick won the game for Norwich and Vrancic fully deserved man of the match.
