Norwich City were left frustrated as they lost 3-1 to Sunderland in the first home match of the Championship season.

The Canaries dominated possession but failed to make it count as Sunderland produced excellent counter-attacking football to secure the three points.

Sunderland took the lead toward the end of the first-half. A long ball over the top wasn’t dealt with by Christoph Zimmermann and former Canary Lewis Grabban rolled the ball into the back of the net.

Nothing changed after the break, with City still controlling the ball but failing to create any chances and Aiden McGeady doubled Sunderland’s lead with a superb strike from outside the box.

Grabban netted his second to put the game to bed as he headed home a cross from the left to make it 3-0.

The striker then handed Norwich a consolation goal as he inadvertently prodded the ball into his own net from Marcel Franke’s knock-down.
