Norwich made Beckham approach
Former scout Mel Johnson has revealed that Norwich City made a move for David Beckham.
Yes, the David Beckham. Although, it was when he was an 11-year-old youth player.
Johnson says that Beckham was playing in a Canaries tournament in Norfolk and impressed those from Norwich.
This led to Norwich making an approach to sign the young up-and-coming footballer, but his love for Manchester United meant that they had no chance.
Of course, he went on to play for Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan – among others – and captain England.
Speaking to The Mirror, Johnson said this:
Beckham played in the Canary Cup tournament at Norwich City. He was playing for his local side.
Norwich tried to court Beckham, but he was in to Manchester United so that was out of the question.
Beckham ended up playing the best part of 400 games for Manchester United, with 115 England caps to his name during his distinguished career.
However, things could have gone very differently for the global icon. He could have ended up signing for Norwich if circumstances were slightly different.
That is not to say he would not have gone on to achieve great things and still play for those great clubs, but he would have graced the Carrow Road pitch first.
