Norwich planning to stick by Alex Neil
Alex Neil has been heavily scrutinised in recent weeks and months following Norwich’s poor form of late but the club are going to stand by their manager, according to Pat Murphy of the BBC.
Twitter: Don’t Shoot the Messenger. I understand @NorwichCityFC are standing by Alex Neil, feeling he’s a good manager who can turn things around. (@patmurphybbc)
It’s understood that the powers at be within the club will continue to back Neil to turn things around and help guide the club back into the playoff picture.
Norwich started off the season in fine form and 12 games into the Championship season they sat atop the division following a 3-1 win against Rotherham.
However, since then Neil’s side have won just three of the last 14 league games, losing nine of them which has resulted in a drastic slip down the table in 11th, eight points adrift of the playoff places.
Twitter: It seems @NorwichCityFC believe stability’s needed in dressing-room – despite 9 defeats in last 13 Lge games – that Neil remains good m’gr. (@patmurphybbc)
No rash decisions will be made over the Scot’s future at the club with the hierarchy valuing the stability within the dressing room that managerial continuity brings.
The 35-year-old took over the club two years ago following an impressive stint in charge of former club Hamilton Academical. He guided Norwich to the Premier League in the 2015/16 season but the Canaries were relegated the following season.
Twitter: There’s also respect for Neil getting @NorwichCityFC promoted to PL & that a change in management now would bring no guarantees of success. (@patmurphybbc)
This achievement has not been forgotten by the board who still believe Neil has what it takes to guide Norwich back to the Premier League.
Next up for Neil is a trip to Southampton for an FA Cup third round replay followed by back-to-back Championship home games against Wolves and Birmingham.
