Neil confirms Olsson deal
Norwich City manager Alex Neil has confirmed that Swansea are in advanced talks with Martin Olsson.
Neil has revealed that Swansea are currently discussing personal terms with Olsson, which means that a final announcement could arise in the coming days.
Olsson is currently the only senior left-back Norwich have on their books, with Robbie Brady suspended and Harry Toffolo out on loan.
Steven Whittaker is able to fill in at left-back but his last league appearance came when he gave away a penalty in a 3-0 defeat to Birmingham City in September – playing as a left-back.
Speaking to the PinkUn, Neil said this:
The situation is exactly as Paul (Clement) said. The clubs are in discussions.
In this window there is no release clause. It is not a case we are forced to sell Martin Olsson. It is like anything else. If you want to do business in terms of bringing players in and freshen things up what you can’t do is be really restrictive in who you are prepared to move on. Martin’s contract was running out.
The negotiations took a considerable time to get him across the line to sign a new contract, what we were conscious of was him leaving in the summer for free. That would have been poor business on our part.
Olsson signed a new Norwich contract last month but it appears as though that was only to bump up his price for this month – due to his previous deal expiring this summer.
Swansea are thought to have agreed a £5m deal for the Swedish international.
