Norwich City midfielder Wes Hoolahan has been picked alongside the European elites of Tony Kroos, Luka Modric, Dimitri Payet and Gareth Bale in the Euro 2016 Team of Round One, by WhoScored.Com.

The Irish playmaker was the star of the show for his national side, and scored a memorable volley for the Boys in Green to put them one nil up against Sweden in the first round of group games in Paris.

Unfortunately for Wes, his inspired performance wasn’t enough to guide Ireland to victory, with a late Kieran Clark own goal levelling for the Swedes as both sides left content to share the spoils.

All the media spotlight going into the game had been centred on Sweden’s main man, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but by the end of the game the famous ‘#DareToZlatan’ slogan had been changed to ‘#DareToWes’ to pay homage to Hoolahan’s spectacular performance.

Not only was Sweden’s all time top goal scorer being outshone by Norwich players on the opposition side, he was even being out-performed by a Canary on his own team. Left back Martin Olsson was widely praised for his performance last week, as he proved to be Sweden’s main outlet going forward and also solid in defence.

If Norwich can keep hold of the trio that featured in this game, it would do their promotion push the world of good.
