Relegation for the Canaries look ever more looming as a Juan Mata saw the Red Devils take all three points home, in a game which saw Norwich pick up their fourth consecutive loss in the most crucial point of their season.

Alex Neil’s side was left to rely on the results of Newcastle and Sunderland, as his unchanged team against the Gunners failed to replicate the Canaries’ result at Old Trafford in December, whilst Van Gaal’s side saw three changes, along with injuries in the warm up and early on in the first half.

Cameron Jerome had possibly Norwich’s best chance but an error by Sebastien Bassong in the second half allowed Wayne Rooney to play in Juan Mata to break the deadlock.

The Canaries face Watford next on Wednesday in the City’s penultimate game of the season, where they’ll be hoping luck is on their side.
