It has been the same problem for Norwich in their last three Premier League seasons; they haven’t had a goalscorer.
Ever since the arrival of Chris Hughton at the club, when Grant Holt lost his form (due to Hughton’s poor tactics), Norwich have failed to find a consistent goalscorer in the Premier League.
The likes of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, Johan Elmander, Gary Hooper, Cameron Jerome and Dieumerci Mbokani have all been used in the Premier League since Hughton came in, and left, but none have succeeded in the top-flight.
Now, with eight games left for Norwich to try to avoid the drop, all hope lies in on-loan Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford.
Bamford only made his first Norwich start last weekend against Manchester City, but is likely to get a run of games now until the end of the season to prove himself in the Premier League.
So, here is five reasons why I think that Bamford can keep Norwich up…
He has the managers backing
One thing that has become clear after the Manchester City match is that Bamford has Alex Neil’s backing. Neil said he was really impressed with Bamford, which is massive for the striker. This means that he is likely to get a good run in the team and a chance to impress.
He has an eye for goal
We caught a glimpse of it against Swansea and Manchester City but you can tell Bamford has an eye for goal. His body movement and positioning to work opportunities for himself is very impressive.
Just look at the chance v Swansea when he swivelled and got a shot in when it looked like there wasn’t much on. He then did something similar against City when he spun with his back to goal and fired a rocket onto the crossbar from the edge of the box.
If he is given a good chance, he will take it. Hopefully against West Brom this weekend!
He's confident
He is clearly a very confident young man. You can tell he believes in himself and he knows he deserves to play in the Premier League, especially after his comments at Crystal Palace.
We all know how important confidence is to a striker, just look at Ricky Van Wolfswinkel. Van Wolfswinkel had the ability but not the confidence. Bamford has both.
He can hold the ball up
Despite what many, many, Norwich fans claimed, Bamford is good at holding the ball up. A lot of fans were questioning whether he could play up top on his own as he they thought he wasn’t strong enough. He certainly proved them wrong against Manchester City as he held off Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi to keep the ball on a number of occasions.
This just adds to his all-round play and ability to bring others into the game, which benefits the Norwich attack greatly.
He can't do much worse than the other forwards
Although there is pressure on him to do well simply because of what is at stake, Premier League survival, he has no competition for his place.
Cameron Jerome has proven time and again this season that he isn’t anywhere near good enough for the Premier League. Dieumerci Mbokani is in the same boat as Jerome, so there is no real competition for Bamford, which means the pressure is off and he can play with freedom. This could ease him into form quickly and get him on the goal trail as soon as possible.
