Ex-Norwich man Chris Sutton has blasted new signing Ivo Pinto by claiming that he “can’t defend”.
Sutton was speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live when he made the claim, criticising Alex Neil’s new signing.
I think Norwich in big trouble.
But I don’t think they are underachieving, I just think that they are good enough. They tried to sign players in January, but that hasn’t worked out.
It’s probably caused him a bit more of a problem, and he’s [Alex Neil] taken criticism for that.
It’s like the right-back that they signed, Ivo Pinto. Everyone said that he was rapid, but you realise why one of the big guns didn’t sign him – because he can’t defend.
Pinto joined Norwich from Dinamo Zagreb in January and the right back came in as an unknown quantity.
The Portuguese defender has been far from impressive so far. However, has been impressive when played as a right wing-back. He has been caught out a number of times when playing in a flat back four, but has flourished as part of a back five.
Pinto won our man of the match award when Norwich lost 1-0 to Leicester, putting in a fantastic performance at right wing-back. However, Alex Neil recently dropped the system for the away trip to Swansea and Pinto was caught out again.
Sutton is clearly not impressed with Pinto so far, but he still has nine games to prove people wrong before the end of the season.
