With Matt Jarvis’ arrival from West Ham United, I interviewed Dean Ammi, West Ham fan and editor of Read West Ham. Here’s the interview in full.
Jacob Sinkins: First up, what is the general consensus from West Ham fans about Matt Jarvis moving?
Dean Ammi: For the majority of the home faithful, it is a massive sigh of relief. The Englishman has never really lived up to his eight figure fee, in spite of two Europa League assists thus far this campaign. However, having exited the competition, Jarvis is now surplus to requirements at Upton Park. The fans expected a lot more since he joined from Wolves in 2012, as the price tag was rather high, so they will be happy he is now off the wage bill.
JS: What would you say was his best moment at West Ham?
DA: Personally, I always enjoy it when new signings get their first goal for the club; it takes a lot of weight off of their shoulders in addition to easing the fans. Queens Park Rangers away in the league, back in the 2012/13 campaign, he scored a delicious header within seconds of the game starting to open up his West Ham account. That goal ensured that we went on to get the away win.
JS: How would you describe him in 3 words?
DA: Crosses, cautious and conservative.
JS: What can he bring to Norwich?
DA: Well, he’ll certainly bring some pace to the Norwich City final third, and he loves to exploit the space on the left-hand side. He will provide a lot of width too and will not hesitate to put balls into the penalty area. However, he has a tendency to play a safe pass and perhaps not take too many risks as he should, meaning maybe Alex Neil should impose some grit into him ahead of the return from the international break.
JS: And finally, do you think he is good enough to rival Robbie Brady?
DA: To be fair, Brady has been playing in more of a full-back role since signing from Hull City, and this is something we will definitely not be seeing Matt Jarvis fulfil. There is an age difference of seven years between the two players, so I doubt that it is entirely fair to pit them up against each other. However, Jarvis does have a cap for the England national team which I think demonstrates how much ability he possesses on his day.
