Norwich City made a late deadline day swoop for West Ham United winger Matthew Jarvis.
Norwich were expected to be heavily involved in deadline day with a multitude of defenders and strikers linked with a move to Norwich before the 6pm deadline.
However, it was only a wide midfielder that the Canaries brought in, following the sale of talisman Bradley Johnson to Derby County. The sale of last year’s Player of the Season left a gap in the squad in the wide positions.
This led to Norwich having to act quickly and use the two hour extension on the 6pm deadline to be able to announce the capture of Matt Jarvis on loan from West Ham for the season.
Jarvis could prove to be a shrewd piece of business by Norwich. Fans may be despondent following the sale of fan favourite Johnson, however, Alex Neil made it clear earlier in the season that he was not performing to the level required.
Johnson has never impressed in the Premier League in previous seasons. Matt Jarvis on the other hand, is a proven Premier League winger who has many seasons of top flight experience with Wolves and West Ham.
Jarvis signed for West Ham back in 2012 from Wolves for a bumper £10.75m. A price tag that looked good worth as he started well for West Ham. However, in recent seasons, he has not got as many minutes as he would like. This could be down to the fact that he does not currently fit into West Ham’s playing system.
Even though this could prove to be a very good addition to the squad. Norwich fans will still be very disappointed with their deadline day dealings. The majority of fans were hoping for a central defender to brought in, there wasn’t, and now Norwich enter the season with two out and out central defenders. That isn’t including Russell Martin, who is more of an out and out right back.
